Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or case number entered into a search box is sent to the outside provider that operates that tool. The provider handles the request and returns its results. Michigan Court Docket does not store or log the search terms on our own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
If a visitor emails us, we retain the message to respond. We keep it within our organization and disclose it outside the team only when a legal duty requires disclosure.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a page loads, technical information about the visit may be recorded, including:
- The time and date of each page view
- The referring website, if there was one
- The pages opened and approximate time spent there
- Browser type and version
- Device type and operating system
- The IP address used by the device
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files stored on a device. We use them and analytics services to understand aggregate site use, such as which pages receive visits and where sessions end. A visitor can block cookies in browser settings. Some site features may work differently when cookies are disabled.
What We Do With This Data
- To keep pages available and improve loading performance
- To send a visitor’s search request to the selected partner tool
- To understand which Michigan court topics are useful to readers
- To find and correct technical problems
- To display advertising that may relate to visitor interests
No Court-Record Data on File
Michigan Court Docket does not host, compile, keep, or sell a database of court dockets or personal case histories. The site offers general information on MiCOURT Case Search, the Michigan court system, and the Circuit, District, and Probate clerks who hold local records across 83 counties. Searches entered in third-party tools are handled by those providers. Visitor information collected by this site is not assembled into consumer reports or a file about another person.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside providers operate the search boxes shown on some pages. Information typed into a partner’s tool is handled under that company’s privacy policy. The partner decides its own retention and disclosure practices, which Michigan Court Docket does not control. Review the provider’s policy before submitting a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to Michigan court portals, the Trial Court Directory, county clerk sites, legal-help resources, or outside search services. Once a visitor leaves this site, the destination’s own privacy terms govern. Read them before sharing personal information.
Advertising partners may also use their own systems to follow activity between sites and select ads. That activity is controlled by the partner, not by our site.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal data. Information may be available to:
- Government or law-enforcement bodies when a valid legal demand requires it
- Ad networks that deliver advertisements on the site
- Analytics companies that measure traffic and performance
- Search providers that process a query submitted through their tool
How We Protect Your Data
We use common security measures to protect information we collect. Internet-connected services can still be breached or interrupted, so no security practice can guarantee that an incident will never occur. We work to safeguard visitor information but cannot promise perfect security.
Users Under 18
This site is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If a minor’s information has been sent to us, a request through the Contact page can be used to ask for its deletion.
Your Data Rights
Michigan’s Freedom of Information Act, MCL 15.231–15.246, concerns access to records held by covered public bodies. It does not govern this privately operated site, and MCL 15.232 excludes the judiciary when it performs judicial functions. Public access to a Michigan trial-court case history instead follows MCR 8.119 and the local court’s access procedure. A request for State Court Administrative Office records follows AO 1997-10, rather than a court-file request.
Where applicable, visitors may ask us to:
- Provide a copy of personal information we maintain about them
- Correct information that is inaccurate
- Delete their information where deletion is available
- Stop certain types of data processing when an opt-out applies
For information held by a Michigan court, contact the clerk that keeps the record; this site cannot change the court’s file.
Updates to This Policy
We may revise this policy as our practices change. The latest wording will appear here with a new effective date. Visitors who want to follow changes can review this page from time to time.
